Mindful bathing

The bath is a unique moment when it comes to practicing mindfulness. You have the opportunity to be fully present and enjoy the moment rather than just get it over with. You also get the opportunity to feel that you are sensing because so many of your senses are involved.

You can hear the water trickle out of the shower head. You can see it jump from there and run down your body and across the floor before disappearing into the grate. You can feel the water hit you on the top of your head or let the water hit you on your chest or shoulders and slide down your body.

Notice how it feels to soap your body and give yourself a gentle scalp massage when you wash your hair. Smell your skin, the freshness of the water, and possibly the scent of your shampoo. When drying yourself, massage yourself thoroughly dry all over with whatever softness or firmness you feel comfortable within the situation.

Think of the bath as a time to give yourself care, closeness, and love. A moment where enjoyment and well-being are at the forefront. If you have a tub, you can create an entire spa session for yourself from time to time, with everything you want: candles, scented oils, pleasant and calm music, and ice-cold water to rinse your insides, hot tea, or maybe a cool glass of bubbles on the edge of the tub.
