Values-based action

Values are about how we want to behave, not what we want to get. Values-based or engaged action means that our actions and behaviors are guided and motivated by values. That we do what it takes to live in accordance with our values.

It does not mean striving for perfection and pushing ourselves to achieve all our goals. It just means a commitment to return to our values over and over again whenever we have lost touch with them.

If you try to think about it, you will realize that you have actually taken part in engaged or values-based action in all the sessions up until now: Simply attending this session (and each of the previous ones) is an engaged action - reading and working with the week's theme is an engaged action - doing mindfulness or yoga exercises is an engaged action, etc.

The method to get to engaged action is by setting values-based goals. The goals are then broken down into specific actions, translating our values into concrete patterns of action in everyday life.
