Values

Values are what give life meaning. They are everything that is important to you on a deeper level. Your values cannot be explained. It is just the way it is! Values are about what is important to YOU and they help give your life direction. They reflect the kind of person you are and the person you want to be, and what you want from your life. Values are the compass needle that helps give your life direction.
To find your values, you can start by asking yourself: "If I was not in pain, what would I do with my life?". "What makes sense to me?". Many of us go through life without really asking ourselves these questions. Instead, one day takes over from the next with everyday routines and chores. In this course, we will therefore support you to start working on identifying the values that are important to you.
Everyone has values. We choose to spend our time on certain things because they have value to us. It is just that you do not always think about why you choose one thing over another. For example, you might choose to play handball instead of music in your spare time. If you take a closer look at that choice, you might discover a value behind it. Values are personal, which means that it could be completely different values that make your teammates play handball. The same action can be motivated by different values.
The difference between values and goals
Values are not the same as goals but are often mixed up with them, which is why it is important to know the difference.
A goal is something concrete and achievable - something that you can set out to achieve or accomplish. Goals can be "checked off" or ticked off, such as: "Now I have completed this education...".
Values, on the other hand, are the direction you follow. They can be used to help you set concrete goals. In other words, values are not the goal, but the direction - the compass needle for your life.
Your values are values for life and never something you are done with. They never end. Goals, on the other hand, do as soon as you reach them or change them.
It is also important to separate values from duties, norms, or rules - the things that society or OTHER people think you should or must do. Values, on the other hand, can easily be something you want and need to do because it is meaningful to you. vil og skal, fordi det er betydningsfuldt for dig.
Values must also be separated from emotions. Emotions come and go and change all the time. They are unstable and fluctuate from day to day. Actions that are guided by values rather than emotions will therefore be much more stable and can be carried out regardless of the emotional state you are in.
