The effects of psychological pain management in endometriosis

A 2019 systematic review looked at the effects of psychological treatment on endometriosis-related symptoms. The study suggests that a combination of patient education and mindfulness, either individually or in groups, appears to improve quality of life and increase pain management skills in women suffering from endometriosis. It also indicates that psychological treatment may help to alleviate pain and endometriosis-related stress, anxiety, and depression.

A recent Danish study of high methodological quality compared the effect of psychological pain management specifically developed for endometriosis - both with and without mindfulness - with being on a waiting list and receiving medical/hormonal treatment as usual.

The results of the study showed large significant improvements in quality of life, pain acceptance, and functional ability among the women who completed the program compared to the control group, as well as improved symptom management in the women who continued to experience pain.

It is precisely this psychological pain management program developed specifically for women with endometriosis that we use as a starting point in this digital program, as it appears to be a very promising method for managing the disease, symptoms, and pain in endometriosis.
